The Chinese Lunar Calendar Gender Selection Method.

Variations of the Chinese Lunar Calendar Baby Gender selection tool have been around for at least 700 years now and those who advocate its use claim it can be up to 90% correct if you do the math carefully enough. The math though can be the tricky part for those of us living in the Western world since as the name suggests the predictor works via the Chinese Lunar calendar, which is quite different from the Gregorian one we are all used to. So if you are interested in giving this method a try let’s take it in simple steps. For this example we are of course using the method to determine the baby’s sex prior to conception, but those who are already pregnant can use it too. When using this method to try and determine the best time to conceive a child of a certain gender you will have to repeat the calculations a couple of times.

To use the baby calendar accurately you just need to know the mother’s age at conception (not age at birth) and the month that your baby is conceived in (again not birth date.) These dates need to come from the Chinese Lunar Calendar and not the Gregorian calendar used in most of the rest of the world.

So, now let’s figure out these dates on the Chinese Lunar Calendar. To start with, the mother-to-be’s age will not be her birth date (as in the west) but at the date of her own conception (which the Chinese believe to be the start of life).  So add 9 months to her overall age to begin with.

The Chinese New Year varies from year to year, falling sometime between January 22 and February 22. So you will need to find out what date was the Chinese New Year on the mother-to-be’s birth year (or the year she was conceived in.) As you can see it could change resulting year of the conception of the mother or baby.

Next you will need to input the intended month of conception, here again using the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Keeping in mind the date of the Chinese New Year in the year the baby was conceived. Just remember the date of the New Year varies and is not January 1st as it is in the west. If for instance the baby is conceived in September (or after), that would mean even if the Chinese New Year fell on February 22 it would not affect the year of conception.

Once you have all of that figured out (phew) Use the chart below to determine the sex of the baby that, according to this old method of gender prediction, would be born.
